Introduction
Basecamp Legal (“Basecamp,” “we,” or other applicable first-person pronouns) is providing this Privacy Notice and the Cookie Notice (collectively, the “Notice”) to explain how we collect, use, disclose, safeguard, transfer, access, dispose of, and otherwise process (collectively, “Process”) certain information we collect. For example, this Notice covers:
- Your communications with us via phone, email, text, and other forms of electronic messages, including interactive chat functions.
- Personal Information we collect through our website (Basecamplegal.com) (the “Site”);
- Personal Information we collect when you interact with social media links on our Site and our official accounts on other third-party websites like Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, and X;
- The services we provide to our clients;
- Personal Information we collect from our legal colleagues in the course of them representing parties in opposition to our clients;
- Personal Information we collect when you interact with service providers we work with to offer, provide, and improve our Website and services to our clients.
- Our marketing activities; and
- Any offline business interactions you may have with us.

It has always been and remains Basecamp’s policy to comply with the rules of professional conduct which impose a duty to preserve and protect confidential client information on lawyers and their associated personnel. This Notice recognizes our overarching obligations to comply with law, preserve client confidentiality, and represent our clients as effectively as possible within the bounds of the law.
We may provide additional or supplemental privacy notices for specific services or products that we offer at the time of collection. Unless otherwise noted, those supplemental notices should be read together with this Notice. In the event of a conflict or inconsistency between this Notice and any supplementary privacy notice, the supplementary privacy notice controls.
For the purposes of this Notice, “Personal Information” is broadly defined to mean information that can identify an individual directly or indirectly through reasonably available information and includes the definitions of “personal information,” “personally identifiable information”, “personal data,” and other analogous terms under applicable data protection laws.
Under the data protection laws, Basecamp determines the purposes for and the means by which some of the Personal Information we collect is Processed, but for most Personal Information provided by our clients, we Process the information on their behalf. When acting in this capacity, generally, our client’s privacy policies and procedures apply. We will handle information, including Personal Information, that we Process in this capacity based on the client’s direction. We encourage you to read the privacy notices of those businesses and exercise any Personal Information rights by contacting them directly.
This Privacy Notice also does not apply to:
- Websites or services that link to or reference different privacy policies or notices.
- Personal Information that is collected by any third party. Those third parties have their own privacy practices, and we encourage you to review them, especially by reading any available privacy polices, before providing Personal Information to or through them.
- Personal Information we collect about employees or job applicants.
Please read this Privacy Notice carefully as it is a legally binding document between Basecamp and you.
Effective Date
This Notice is effective as of the “Last Updated and Effective Date” above and will remain in effect except with respect to any provisions that are changed in the future. Basecamp may make changes to this Notice from time to time and will notify you by posting a revised version on this Site. Changes, modifications, additions, or deletions will be effective immediately upon their posting to the Site or upon you being otherwise notified. You are expected to check this page regularly so you are aware of any changes, as they are binding on you. Your continued use of the Services following the posting of a revised Notice means that you accept and agree to the changes. We will also revise the date found at the beginning of this Notice when we post changes to it.
Children’s Privacy
Basecamp’s Services are not intended for or directed to minors, and we do not knowingly collect Personal Information from minors. If you are under 16 (or the age of majority where you live), please do not use the Services or send us any information without our express consent (which we will only grant after we’ve received verifiable consent from your parent or guardian). If we become aware that a minor has provided us with Personal Information without compliant consent under applicable law, we will take steps to comply with any applicable legal requirement related to such information.
Personal Information We May Collect about You
The Personal Information Basecamp collects about you and how we Process it depends on the nature of the relationship you have with us, your interactions with us, the Services you use, the choices you make, and the requirements of applicable law. We may collect information directly from you, as described more fully below, and we also receive information from or on behalf of our clients. Because of the nature of our legal representation services, this could include any type of Personal Information. That Personal Information will be Processed in accordance with applicable data protection laws and any exceptions to them.
The categories and specific types of Personal Information that we may collect in the regular course of business are listed below. Please note that some types of Personal Information are duplicated among categories.

If we combine or connect non-personal, demographic, or technical information with Personal Information so that it directly or indirectly identifies an individual, we treat the combined information as Personal Information.
We also may collect content that you create, specifically, your communications with us, and also any other content you create that is available to us (such as social media profiles, photographs, images, videos, survey responses, comments, and other content).
How We Collect Information About You
Basecamp uses different methods to collect information from and about you including:
- Direct interactions. You may give us information about you by corresponding with us by phone, email, texts, chatbot services, forms on the Site, or otherwise. This includes information you provide when you engage us for a Service, sign up for news publications and marketing communications and events, sign up for a webinar or event, and respond to our communications or requests for information.
- Automated technologies or interactions. As you interact with our Site, we may automatically collect technical information about your equipment and browsing actions and patterns as specified in this Notice. We collect this information by using cookies and other similar technologies. Please review the Cookie Notice for more information on this.
- Third parties or publicly available sources. We may receive information about you from third parties including, for example, clients, business partners, service providers, advertising networks, and social media platforms.
- User contributions. You also may provide information for us to publish or display (“post”) on public Site areas or transmit to other Service users or third parties, including our social media pages and Service review websites (collectively, “User Contributions”). For example, we maintain official pages on third-party social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and X. You submit User Contributions for posting and transmission to others at your own risk. Although you may set certain privacy settings for User Contributions by logging into your account profile on the applicable website, please be aware that no security measures are perfect or impenetrable. Additionally, we cannot control the actions of any Site or social media platform users with whom you choose to share your User Contributions. Therefore, we cannot and do not guarantee that unauthorized persons will not view your User Contributions. We strongly advise that you avoid posting or sharing confidential, financial, or other sensitive information like your Social Security number, bank account number, credit card number, phone number, home or mailing address, or email address when posting to a social media platform. Any posts that you make on our official social media pages (including posts that contain pictures, comments, suggestions, opinions, complaints, or information) are publicly available to others who visit those pages, as well as the companies operating the platforms on which they appear. You are subject to those platforms’ privacy practices and policies and their terms of use. In order to better understand your rights and obligations with regard to these interactions, please refer to the privacy notices for the social media platforms you are visiting.
How We Use Your Information
Basecamp may use your Personal Information for the following purposes:
- Run and manage our business in the ordinary course and keep our records up to date.
- Provide you with Services and if you are or become Basecamp’s client, administer the matters you instruct us on.
- Fulfill requests you make and respond to your inquiries.
- Fulfill the purposes for which you provided the information or that were described when it was collected.
- Provide customer service.
- Communicate with you (unless you tell us that you prefer us not to) regarding legal or law firm developments or other services we or our business partners may offer that may be of interest to you. If you do not want to receive publications or details of events that we consider may be of interest to you, you may let us know by clicking on the unsubscribe link in electronic marketing communications.
- Further develop our Services.
- Notify you about changes to our Services.
- Resolve technical support issues.
- Present our Site and its contents to you.
- Improve our marketing and client relationships and experiences.
- Protect our Services, employees, operations, or any other person or business.
- Carry out our obligations and enforce our rights arising from any contracts entered into between you and us, including for billing and collection.
- Complying generally with all laws and applicable statutory requirements.
- For any other purpose with your consent.
Disclosure of Your Personal Information
Basecamp may disclose your Personal Information to:
- Business partners, suppliers, service providers, subcontractors, and other third parties we use to support our business.
- Law enforcement officials or regulatory authorities.
- Any third party with your consent.
We may disclose your Personal Information for the following purposes:
- Provide you with the Services.
- Fulfill the purpose for which you provide it.
- Comply with any court order, law, subpoena, or other legal process, including to respond to any government or regulatory request.
- Enforce or apply an agreement between us and our clients or you.
- Protect and defend our rights and property, our Services, our clients, and/or others.
- When we otherwise believe in good faith that the provision of such information is required or permitted by law, such as in connection with the investigation or assertion of our legal defenses or for our compliance matters.
- If we believe disclosure is necessary or appropriate to protect the rights, property, or safety of Basecamp, our clients, or others.
- Complete a sale (of some or all of our shares or assets), transfer, merger, reorganization, bankruptcy, dissolution, or similar event involving our business (including in contemplation of such transactions). Your information may be among the contemplated business assets.
- Satisfy any other purpose disclosed by us when you provide the information.
Basecamp does not sell, share, or disclose your Personal Information to third-parties for their direct marketing purposes.
Please note, when you contact us through the Site by entering any information, including Personal Information, into any form, that communication is disclosed to Themis Solutions Inc. dba Clio, our law practice management software. Clio is one of our trusted service providers, and we have a contract with Clio to keep all information it collects on our behalf confidential and secure. As noted in the Terms of Use, please do not send us any confidential information through such forms.
Your Privacy Rights and Choices
Under the laws of certain jurisdictions, you may have rights related to the Processing of your Personal Information. Please note, Basecamp may refuse your request to exercise those rights subject to limitations, exceptions, and/or exemptions to those laws. Those rights may include:
Right to Know and Transfer/Data Portability/Access
You may have the right to request that we disclose certain information to you about our Processing of your Personal Information over the past 12 months and to confirm whether we are Processing your Personal Information and to access this personal data. Once we receive your request and confirm your identity (see Request Verification), we will disclose to you:
- The categories of Personal Information we collected about you.
- The categories of sources for the Personal Information we collected about you.
- Our business or commercial purpose for collecting that Personal Information.
- The categories of third parties to whom we disclose Personal Information.
- The specific pieces of Personal Information we collected about you in a portable and readily usable format when we Process the information through automated or searchable means.
Right to Delete
You may have the right to request that we delete any of your Personal Information we are Processing.
Right to Correct Inaccurate Information
If we maintain inaccurate information about you, you may have the right to request correction of that inaccurate Personal Information, taking into account the nature of the Personal Information and the purposes of the Personal Information Processing. We will use commercially reasonable efforts to correct this information.
Right to Withdraw Consent
You may have the right to withdraw your consent from us Processing your Personal Information. This may limit our ability to provide you with our Services, act on your behalf or engage with you as you would like. Once we receive your request and confirm your identity (see Request Verification), we will inform you of the implications of such withdrawal. Any withdrawal of consent will apply thereafter and not to information handling practices that have been previously undertaken based on prior consent.
Right to Limit the Processing of Sensitive Personal Information
Basecamp’s Processing of Sensitive Personal Information falls into one of limited business purposes. We do not share Sensitive Personal Information for any other purpose.
Right to Opt Out of Certain Information Handling Practices, including Sale or Sharing of Your Personal Information and Processing for Targeted Advertising or Profiling
You may have the right to opt out of the disclosure of Personal Information to third parties which is not reasonably necessary for the purposes for which it was collected or as otherwise required by law or of having your Personal Information shared or sold. If you are 16 or older, you have the right to direct us to not sell your Personal Information at any time. You may also have the right to opt out of the Processing of the Personal Information for purposes of targeted advertising or profiling in furtherance of decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects concerning you. As noted above, Basecamp does not sell, share, or disclose your Personal Information with third-parties for targeted advertising. Nor do we profile your Personal Information.

If you submit a request to Basecamp and we are Processing your Personal Information on behalf of another party, we will do our best to route the request to the proper party so long as we have sufficient information to do so on your behalf and doing so would not violate any laws or regulations.
Request Verification
We may request specific information from you to help us confirm your identity and verify your right to make such a request. Applicable law or regulation may allow or require us to refuse to your request. If we cannot honor your request, we will inform you of the reasons why, subject to any legal or regulatory restrictions.
Only you, or sometimes someone legally authorized to act on your behalf, may submit a request to exercise your Personal Information rights.
Response Timing and Format
We endeavor to substantively respond to a verifiable consumer request within 45 days of its receipt. If we require more time (up to another 45 days), we will inform you of the reason and extension period in writing.
Any disclosures we provide will only cover the 12-month period preceding receipt of your request. The response we provide will also explain the reasons we cannot comply with a request, if applicable and doing so would not violate any laws or regulations. For data portability requests, we will select a format to provide your Personal Information that is readily useable and should allow you to transmit the information from us to another entity without hindrance.
We do not charge a fee to respond to your verifiable consumer request unless it is excessive, repetitive, or manifestly unfounded. If we determine that the request warrants a fee, we will tell you why we made that decision and provide you with a cost estimate before completing your request.
Appeal Process

Non-Discrimination
We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of your rights. Unless permitted by law, we will not:
- Deny you goods or services.
- Charge you different prices or rates for goods or services, including through granting discounts or other benefits, or imposing penalties.
- Provide you a different level or quality of goods or services.
- Suggest that you may receive a different price or rate for goods or services or a different level or quality of goods or services.
Choices
We strive to provide you with choices regarding certain Personal Information Processing, particularly around marketing and advertising. The various choices you may have about our Personal Information Processing are as follows:
- Promotional Offers from Basecamp. If you do not want us to use your contact information to promote our own Services or third parties’ products or services, you can opt-out by following the unsubscribe link in the body of any promotional email we have sent you or by emailing your request to admin@basecamplegal.com This opt out does not apply to from us that are necessary for our provision of Services, updates related to this Notice, or other transactions.
- Third-Party Advertising. If you do not want us to share your Personal Information with unaffiliated or third parties for promotional purposes, you can let us know through the contact information provided under How to Exercise Your Privacy Rights.
- Tracking Technologies and Targeted Advertising. Basecamp does not track you or send you targeted advertising or permit its service providers or other third parties to do so. For more information about tracking technologies, please see our Cookie Notice.
- Global Privacy Control. The Site responds to Global Privacy Control signals. For more information about Global Privacy Control, please see our Cookie Notice.
- User Contributions. If you delete your User Contributions from the Services, we may not control your contributions and copies of your User Contributions that may remain viewable in cached and archived pages, or might have been copied or stored by other Services users.
Consent to Personal Information Transfer
Basecamp is based in the United States. We may Process the Personal Information we collect in a country outside your own, with different privacy laws that may or may not be as comprehensive as your own.
If you are located outside the United States and choose to use the Services, please note that we transfer information, including Personal Information, to the United States. By submitting your Personal Information or using our Services, you consent to this Processing.
We will take all steps reasonably necessary to ensure that your information is treated securely and in accordance with this Privacy Policy and no transfer of your Personal Information will take place to an organization or a country unless there are adequate controls in place including the security of your Personal Information.
Information Security
We use physical, electronic, and administrative safeguards designed to protect your Personal Information from loss, misuse, and unauthorized access, use, alteration, or disclosure.
We require service providers to maintain data protections consistent with the amount, nature, and sensitivity of the Personal Information they are Processing and best practices. We do not guarantee that our safeguards will always work.
The safety and security of your information also depends on you. Where you have a password for access to certain parts of our Services, you are responsible for keeping this password confidential. We ask you not to share your password with anyone. We urge you to take care when providing information that is available to the public, such as reviews or on our social media pages.
Unfortunately, the transmission of information via the internet is not completely secure. Although we do our best to protect your Personal Information, we cannot guarantee the security of your Personal Information transmitted to us. Any transmission of Personal Information is at your own risk. We are not responsible for the circumvention of any privacy settings or security measures contained on the Services.
Data Retention
Except as otherwise permitted or required by applicable law or regulation, including any applicable rules of professional conduct, we will only retain your Personal Information for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes we collected it for, as required to satisfy any legal, accounting, or reporting obligations, or as necessary to resolve disputes. To determine the appropriate retention period for Personal Information, we consider applicable legal requirements, the amount, nature, and sensitivity of the Personal Information, the potential risk of harm from unauthorized use or disclosure of your Personal Information, the purposes for which we Process your Personal Information, and whether we can achieve those purposes through other means.
